LOOKING FORWARD TO JANUARY

I recorded a video for YouTube and it turned out great. Our Disability Landscape channel interviewed executive director Sue Abderholden of Nami MN (National Alliance of Mental Illness) and I was excited to see that Sue was also interviewed in the News. I included the interview below.

I drove for ride share this week. I picked up a client who lived near an apartment I lived in around 2008 in South Minneapolis so that brought back memories. I had an UberPet ride with a doggy client that was comfortable in the car until its owner left. A lot of discussions I had with individuals this week seemed to be about 2021 and any possible change.

I took part in a book discussion for Neil, Gaiman's 'American Gods' novel. This was my first virtual book discussion with a group of people I was unfamiliar with. Like many book clubs, a few of its members had not read the book. I can admit that I was a few chapters in and so we talked a lot about the existentialism in the book.

Reading:

I started reading 'City of Thieves while I was sitting in the passenger seat while a friend was driving Doordash. So while we were picking up food in Crystal and pizza aromas were filling the car it made me think of the plot a few times.
This 'Family Upstairs' novel is reminding me a lot of 'Blood Orange' somehow.
As good as my promise to self, I started reading another Neil Gaiman book. I've read Terry Pratchett as well. So I'm sure its going to be wonderful.

LOOKING FORWARD TO JANUARY

Its been an interesting week. A friend of mine got back from Pakistan and told me about their travels and gave me some gifts including some unique tasting chocolate and dried fruit and a sugar tin shaped like a snowman. I had an hour long conversation with another friend about life in general. It felt great. I love talking on the phone vs text. I was so adverse to texting when it started a while back and I'm still getting used to it being the norm.

A friend of mine, Mark Knutson, who is a comedian in a wheel chair told me how he submitted his taped audition to 'America's Got Talent'. He got this idea after one of the executive producers came to his comedy festival in Sioux Falls a while back. I thought it was encouraging and a brave step.

LOOKING FORWARD TO JANUARY

This week seemed to be storytelling week for me. I took part in a storytelling experience on ZOOM. The hosted expanded on one of Aesop fables 'The Lion and the MOUSE' . It was quite good and very engaging with all types of voices for characters and movements.  I went walking in a big park with a trail near my home which also has a dog park. My sister was out of town so a friend dog-sat for her and I went with the friend to walk the dog. I recorded a short film with a group of actors on ZOOM which was a lot of fun.

I'm grateful to invite so many people to do things with me on ZOOM.
I'm grateful for splendid books so that I can walk around my house and read when its too cold outside. Thankful my car didn't get toed when they were emptying the lot the other day.

LOOKING FORWARD TO January

I talked to someone this week who said he and his wife got married virtually after knowing one another for six years, and how their story would make for a great novel. This brought up questions from the group. Where is your wife? He explained how the ceremony was virtual and how he had guests from Indonesia, Hong Kong, and England.
I see a lot of things on ZOOM these days and some things are unusual and some things are not. Tell me about things you've seen on ZOOM in the comments below and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm starting to read more series so if you have any great one, also let me know in the comments below. And if you start seeing that we are reading the same books from my weekly posts-know that this is no coincidence. I write down at least one book from every blog I read in hopes to generate a greater connection with all my readers. Sometimes I don't get to each one but I strive to throughout the year.
I had some vacation this week and I'm grateful I was able to:

LOOKING FORWARD TO DECEMBER

Christmas was spent at my brother's house. We did a lot of old and new traditions including watching basketball on television and singing 'Noel' with my brother leading in tenor. My brother loves to draw my nephew an elaborate picture each year for christmas. It started off as a joke because my brother isn't the best artist so he usually draws stick figures. This year, he drew a black and white picture of the baseball field(US bank stadium). All of the MN Twins players were included and each of the family members sitting in the stands, some of us in the nose bleed section.

We sat in the basement around the fire opening gifts. I gave my nephew a Rudolph pajama onesie. My nephew is twenty-four so I'm not sure if he enjoyed the gesture as much I enjoyed the joke behind it.

I'm doing a buddy read my friend who currently lives in Ohio. I caught a little bit of this on audio as well. So far the MC has spoken with a character about a house that she lived in that her father wrote a story about. And the MC has definitive tone.

LOOKING FORWARD TO December

I enjoyed Queen’s Gambit this week on Netflix. I like the obsessive character, Beth Harmon. I guess I didn’t know it was based on an earlier book (by the same name) but I should have found that clue after seeing the 1950-60's setting. I found it very similar to the Bobby Fisher story. I haven’t read the book, and I'm ashamed to

say that I never learned to play chess like the character in the movie. Its on my bucket list. In a ZOOM meeting, I heard one writer say this about Walter Trevis' writing: “IF I could write like him, I’d die happy.” Wow!
Lastly, I drove ride share and took a lot of people to do their holiday shopping. There were as many as I thought (of course). I enjoyed seeing all of the outdoor displays. There are a lot more unusual inflatables this year. It seems as if people are going for the unusual and comedic. I shared some of the ones I noticed in pictures below.

Ghosts of GreenGlass House is a YA book highly recommended to read during the holidays.

The Twelve Dates of Christmas' is an okay nove. The title is exactly as the book suggests and the setting is in the UK. I love, love, love UK stories. I did think that the characters could have more depth and the plot isn't as happy go lucky as most holidays novels, moving into the dating bit quite fast but there are twelve dates so that's a lot of men to stow away in one novel.
