No one likes it when their family life changes.  This is particularly hard for the Radtke's.  A troublesome girl named Tracey enters their lives and the children are an endless journey to make sure this girl doesn't get into any further trouble or cause their parents to lose their fostering license.  These are snippets from my second novella in the series, "Oh Tracey."

Last week's

Ms. Ames-”
“Miss? Now, that’s a new way to say it.”
“Look, I’m here-” she coughed, “Because I’m looking for your foster sister, Tracey.” She seemed frustrated that the introduction was taking so long.
My face fell. “Oh gosh, what has Tracey done now?”
The screen door screeched as Ms. Not-a-reporter opened it wider and looked under my arm inside the house as if she’d find Tracey somewhere behind me.
She straightened herself and then put her hand into her coat pocket and took out a card, “This is my business card.”

This week

“This is my business card,” the woman said.
On the front it said, Ms. Patty’s handbags in curly letters with a big cat in the right hand corner. On the back it said nothing.
“Ms. Patty?” I said in amusement.
She patted her hair. “Why yes?”
“Um, you may want to meet my Uncle Roger. He has a little printing business and he may be able to help you out with your little business cards.”
She stared at me smug and said, “Shouldn’t you be in school or something?”

This is a fictional snippet  on a piece I've been working on.

Everyone focuses their eyes and energy on the train doors almost like their telepathically willing the train to stop and make the doors open so they can get the hell out of here
I laugh cause I forgot to wear my purple.
"Purple pride," one bum says in the back.
Guess he’s missed the message that were all supposed quiet right now.
All of a sudden someone in the front of the car starts shouting "Go Vikings, run up the score.  You'll hear us yell for more."
Everyone on the train starts shouting "V-I-K-I-N-G-S, Skol, Vikings, let's go!"

This is a small snippet from a new piece of work I'm writing

I’m a man who can always feel the liquor in my chest as it soothes and heats my throat. And then right after, mind f#@$*&! numbness.
I used to be a stock boy at the grocery store. I used to greet old women as I walked around the store armed with nothing but a price scanner, a box cutter and a walkie-talkie.
‘Grocery to register nine.’
"God damn," sorry I just had to say it. It’s the damn CSM calling me up front and there’s no way I’m going. Not today, I think.

This is a snippet from my novel:

Zion and I adjusted our backpacks. It was a short hike to the junkyard and we played a game of eye spy.
“I spy with my little eye a husky boy,” I said.
“Sam Burns,” Zion answered.
“I spy a bad kid.”
“Burns again.”
“I spy a teenager with shit for brains."

"Burns."
We enjoyed this little banter all the way to the junkyard.
When we got to its huge gate Zion peeked in. “All clear.”

Weekend Warriors #wewriwa

Welcome to my Weekend Warriors post.  Every Sunday a group of writers post eight to ten sentences from excerpts of their writing or 150 words of poetry.  To join sign up here :   www.wewriwa.com.

This is my excerpt from a  Horror story I'm working on called Camping:

One didn’t have to see Piggy to hear him. His loud exhales between each phrase were a part of his asthma that made him carry around his inhaler in his shirt pocket.
“Well, (exhale) I just thought, if we (exhale) could get a phone signal, then we might be able to alert someone of the (exhale) power outage,” said Piggy.
“And who would you have us alert?” asked Terrence, the bully. “Your mother?”
A few snickers all around.
“What does Piggy, wiggy need his wanket? Does Piggy wiggy need swa-one to tuck him in at night?" asked Terrence.

This is an audio version of the story if you have the time to listen.
I knew I wasn't alone in writing and narrating my own stories.  But I came across this site made by a professional narrator who publishes writers' work to youtube.  Submission guidelines can be found at http://talltaletv.com/submission-form  .  A colleague by the name of Abhishek Sengupta just got his work published.
