           LOOKING FORWARD TO june

So this week I went to Hudson, Wisconsin.  We decided to sit near the lake and there were parts that were flooded over,  near a playground and it was kind of neat.  I took tons of pictures

and it was really pretty.

I also went Kayaking on Come lake, and went to Como zoo.  I saw a lot of my friends there(The monkeys, lol)

I saw an interpretive dance at Cowles theater- put on by Red Eye Theater.  In the backdrop, a prerecorded film of the dancers played and performers played the sitar and musical saw and violin. Cowles Theater has the capacity to do a lot with special effects and light and there was just so much to take in.  I closed my eyes for a bit and meditated.  Later I congratulated a few of the dancers on their performance.  I like it when the audience and the performers seem to know and you begin to notice how connected they are.  
I wrote these two little snippets for my writers group the other day, it's based on a true story and we had two minute writing prompts... I hope you enjoy.

I’ve made a few  mistakes in my writing life.   Writing mistakes that have to do with essays in high school, mistakes on writing tests.

But I remember this mistake vividly.  I sat down for the 10th grade state standard test.  For some reason they spread us all throughout the school.  Maybe to eliminate the likelihood of cheaters, and I was in the library with five other individuals.  I was just sitting there-my charming ole’ self -and who sat next to me-no other than ‘Gerry Mettis'.  Everyone who was anyone knew who he was, and everyone who was no one, knew who Gerry was.  He was point guard for the Patriot’s basketball team. 

He told us all what he was going to write about: “If I could be anyone in the world he said, “I’d be a pimp.”
A roar in the library came thereafter, and of course I asked.  “Why Gerry, why would you want to be a pimp?” Story 2**

When a little kid named Steve started chasing me around overnight camp with some prickly pine needles, I don’t remember thinking at that time, that Steve had a crush on me.   

I remember thinking:This damn kid better leave me the f#@! alone before I go and tell my brothers.

My brothers went to camp with me and when they found out that a round, pudgy kid named Steve was chasing me around with pine needles, they did what all brothers do best:  they told him where he could fine more of the fine, prickly varieties. LOOKING FORWARD TO JULY

Happy Bastille Day!

This week I've been looking for a new job with some success.  I think I just need something new, you know what I mean?  But job searching can be scary when you've been in the same line of work for so long.  I've been looking on Indeed.com, but if you know of any other places let me know in the comments below.
My brother was supposed to come to visit from Wahpeton, and hang out but he couldn't come so I'm sort of bummed out about that.  We're really close since I spent a lot of time taking care of him as a kid.

Either way, I also went kayaking on Bde Maka Ska, and I didn't sink the kayak so that's pretty good. The lake's pavilion was recently damaged in a fire which was pretty sad to see.

While kayaking, I saw some pretty cool canoes and kayaks. One canoe I saw was made of plastic, which probably means it's a lot lighter in weight.  Another one I saw was foldable.

This week I'm excited because I was able to download oracle after many attempts.  I thought I had a bug in my computer that was preventing me from downloading it.  And Oracle is a necessity for my online class, because I'm  learning SQL, structured query language. So I found out, I needed to download sql developer software which has java connected with it.

  I’ve been using stackoverflow.com to help me answer some questions related to my IT class. 

I just read somewhere that some people don't use Google as a source to answer their common questions.  Stackoverflow.com or Quora is also a resource because it's a community online that is devoted to answering all kinds of questions.

This week I also got the most glorious compliment on my writing.  You see every Saturday I meet with writers at Black Dog cafe, so the writers there are very familiar with my work.  This Saturday, I was going on and on about this writer, named Teresa, who writes all about her Babsia, polish grandmother, and how she has so many stories that are about this small-made-up polish village in Minnesota.  Her stories are absolutely hysterical!
Anyway, the writer, Jim was like, "you write some fantastic stories, too, about your life growing up in north Minneapolis, and they're filled with great characters and dialogue. Now if you could just connect all these stories and combine them in a novel." And you know what, that's what I plan to do! I'm just so thrilled that someone sees potential in my writing.

Jonas Salzgeber is with me today to discuss his new book. Jonas is the author of The Little Book of Stoicism and blogs for a small army of remarkable people at njlifehacks.com. He’s an expert in Stoic philosophy and passionate about self-made dark chocolate and buttered coffee with collagen.

Jonas, what makes your work special?

I’ll tell you something about the four luminaries whose works build the foundation of Stoicism: Seneca, Musonius Rufus, Epictetus, and Marcus Aurelius. It’s said that over a thousand books had been written on Stoic philosophy but only a handful survived—mainly the ones from these four Roman Stoics.

Luckily, these brilliant (but also flawed) men did not live in caves somewhere in the mountains, but all of them were fully engaged in society and worked hard to make the world a better place. In the book, you’ll meet an incredible wealthy playwright and equivalent of the modern-day entrepreneur, an early feminist, and a crippled slave who should become teacher and the main influence of the Stoic Roman Emperor and mightiest person in the world.

If you could drop in on a book you read as a kid which book is it?

I didn’t read many books as a child. I only discovered reading as a young adult. I do remember enjoying the novel The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera. The Maori girl Kahu communicates with dolphins and whales – would be great to drop in there.

What was the hardest thing about writing your current book?

My inner resistance monster holding me back. It took perseverance and strength accepting this daily fight with my inner resistance.

What were you like in high school?

Good grades came easy. So I had a lot of time to spend with sports and friends. We had an amazing class and I was grateful being able to enjoy quality time with classmates. I wasn’t eccentric and was on good terms with everybody. I tried to support the mobbed, helped the struggling getting better grades, and was always in for leisure time events.

Do you find feedback from writers’ critiques helpful?

Absolutely. I want to improve my writing, so honest feedback is always helpful.

 MAY

On Wednesday of this week I found myself busier than usual.  We went to Dick's Sporting Goods to buy an inflatable kayak.  Yes, Kayaking is in our future when we buy paddles, an air pump and safety gear.  Ever since we went kayaking in San Diego, we've had kayaking on the brain and I'm so glad we finally bought one.  

I also had a sit down with the Early Child Education committee and I felt like I was having a meeting with the United Nations.  Burmese, Somali, and Mexican immigrants were represented along with their translators in order to discuss child welfare.  It was fantastic!  I speak a bit of Somali and Arabic, so listening to the translation was quite fun for me.
