LOOKING FORWARD to MAY

I ended up doing tons of dance workouts at home while throwing the beach ball to my son.  I also went to see an improv show at Strike Theater. I have my nephew's Fitness competition next week and I have a few people to visit in the hospital.

How do I stay motivated ? (my ride share job)

I set money goals.

I tell myself if I make enough money, I can take an improv class.

I get intentional about driving and chat myself up on the way to my first ride. (usually in the morning).

I never eat anything heavy and always have a cup of espresso at my side along with some water.

I make things entertaining by taking little walks in between rides and try to meet my fifteen minute walking goals in the morning.

I shop for odds and ends in between rides. (This funny thing happens when you’re on your way to run an errand, you’re more likely to get a ride. Maybe the algorithm sees you’re car as the one on the move.

I take pictures of places I been to and post them to Google Maps. This helps others find and make decisions about a location.

I post to instagram.

I’m always thinking about my next possible short story based on my ride share experience.

I hope you enjoyed this list.

Here is my latest ride-share story.

I don’t know where I am 😳

My ride-share client rang me to say he doesn’t know where he is.

A picture from Friday Delight Theatre last week

“Well, what is the nearest business you see?”

“ I don’t know I’m on 10th street in downtown. I see a gas station. It’s a BP.”

“ OK, I know where you are,” I said.

(this gas station attracts many people, one time I saw a nude guy sitting on the corner. A story for another day)

I begin to put the address in the GPS. When I picked him up, he said he’s going to the treatment center.

I put the center in the GPS, when we get there he said it’s the w

rong one, its the on University in Saint Paul.

(I hit my forehead. I’ve been there so many times why didn’t I think of that.)

“What is your drug of choice? I asked.

“Meth,” he said.

“I learned early on that I can’t do drugs because people in my family have codependency issues,” I said. “In fact, I drink caffeine every day and it causes all the anxiety I need.”

“See, I don’t like telling people about my addiction,” said my client Matthew.

(I try to put him at ease )

“It’s OK, I am not here to judge you,😉” I said “I know someone who does crack… the only thing is I didn’t realize it at the time 😳…but she had told me had an ARMHS worker...somehow I naïvely thought the addiction was in the past, and she was seeing the worker to prevent herself from continuing.”

“I had no idea that she needed the ARMHS worker daily.”

“Were honestly an hour late, I shouldn’t even go inside, but I have to go to treatment or my parole officer will come for me.”

“I think you’re going to get through this,” I said to Matthew dropping him off at the center.

Review: Ballet Co.Laboratory celebrates solidarity with audience return to theater

Theaters are slowly giving individuals a chance to celebrate and feel the solidarity of being in an audience again.Ballet Co.Laboratory performed Firebird at Concordia University in St Paul.

The choreography was by Flavia Garcia and directed by Director Zoé Henrot, set to music by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. Firebird is the story of young prince Ivan who is ill.  The only way to save his life is to possess a magical feather from the Firebird.  Archers are sent to seek the Firebird. Ivan eventually captures the bird and in exchange for her independence she tears a feather and gives it to the Prince, telling Ivan that if he's ever in danger, all he needs to do is wave the feather and she'll help him.  The prince comes upon a garden occupied by thirteen princesses who are under the spell of Koschei and the prince falls in love with princess Katerina.

LOOKING FORWARD to MAY

This week I had two of the tires replaced on my Camry.  Keeping up on maintenance on my ride-share car is super important.  I also did some comedy on a fun app called oozebear created by Eric Holmes.  It allows improvisers to come together online and do scenes which they can control by clicking on buttons like scene swipe, tagouts, and walk-ons.  I  was encouraged to join their sketch comedy writing group.

“He said he hates women with tattoos and then somehow ended up asking me for my number and I looked at him and said”:

My son at the Playground
Most people that hit on me are women who think I’m gay.”

           LOOKING FORWARD TO MAY

Candyland store in St Paul

“You going to Law School?” I said to my ride-share client after noticing her destination in the app.

“Yeah!” 😀she said enthusiastically. “It’s a lot of work.

“I went to school for teaching,” I said. “Teaching might not have been my cup of tea but it did help me become more resilient and practice public speaking skills which I use while performing improv.”

“Wow,improv is so cool!”

I continued with,“I didn’t even know that I was built skills that I could use on the improv stage.”

Fire Engine sighting

“You know,” I said. “This may sound ignorant 🧐 but there was a time I thought lawyers had it all together, but I’ve met some interesting lawyers in my writer’s group who have talked about challenges in their life, including attachment🫣 issues.”

“Oh yeah, we lawyers are humans like everyone else,” she said, “but I really hope that I enjoy this law profession because it is the hardest thing I ever done in my life!”

I chuckled

“The hardest thing for me is raising my five-year-old,” I said.

“Oh yeah, I know if I had a kid there is no way I would be able to attend law school,” she said.

“You know the hardest thing about law school is minding my professors, I always have something to say about how things can be different and I always tell them.”
Improv this week

“At least you don’t get anxious while asserting yourself,” I said. “That’s my problem. I assert myself and then get anxious about it.”

“You are your own best advocate,” she said, “And people will try to take advantage of you when they see you doing a lot.”

“Yes, that’s why it’s incredibly important to focus on yourself,” I said.

It was in that moment that I thought of circumstances where I’ve been taken advantage of in the workplace.

“Boundaries are important,” she said. “Thanks Trin for the ride and for the chat,” she said why exiting the car.

“Good luck at law school!” I said.
