    "State of Wander" by Ann Patchett.  I read this novel after seeing it displayed in the three day rental shelf at the library.  When two scientists receive news that a fellow colleagues is dead, in the rain forest. 

Pharmaceutical researcher, Dr. Marina Singh chooses to go out and find the reason for the death, and whether their big science project is thrown into the flames (sort-of speak), by the  nutty professor, Dr. Anneck Swenson, a renowned gynecologist who refuses to come home from the rain forest.

 

Dr. Anneck Swenson believes that the reproductive habits of a local tribe  where women can conceive well into their middle ages could reveal a secret of breeding that could help Americans.

 

If you don't walk away from Patchett's novel learning about the rain forest, you truly didn't read the novel.The forest is hot, it has mosquitoes and bugs which can kill you.  It seems tremendous and mystical, if your unfamiliar with it.
